Add the Clipboard pill
A Clipboard pill shows what you copied recently, so you can paste an older copy. Rondell records copies only while a ring that’s on has a Clipboard pill. Nothing is recorded before you add one.
- In Settings, open Rings, pick the ring you want, and choose the Add pill tab.
- Click the Clipboard card. The pill’s action is Clipboard history.
- To add it to a pill you already have, open the pill’s editor, choose Add an action, then Clipboard history in the Open group.
Panel or ring
In the Clipboard history action, Show as sets how the copies appear: Panel or Ring. Panel is the default.
- Panel: a window with a Search field and a list of copies, newest first. Click the pill, or press its own shortcut, to open it near the cursor. Drag its top edge to move it; it reopens where you left it.
- Ring: the copies open as a ring of pills, in the look of the ring they’re in. Hover over the pill, wait on it or drag past it while you hold the ring’s key. Clicking the pill opens it at the cursor.
Paste an earlier copy
A copy can be text, a picture or files. Picking one pastes it into the window you were in. The copy moves to the top of the list and stays on your clipboard.
In a terminal, a copy with line breaks isn’t pasted. If Rondell can’t send the paste keys, the status pill says “Copied to Clipboard” and you can paste it yourself.
- In the panel, click a copy, or use the arrow keys and press Enter. Type to search. Escape or the × closes the panel.
- In a ring, click a copy or release on it. A ring of more than 10 copies has a Search pill first, then pages; Previous and Next turn the page. Search matches words in text and file names, not pictures.
- Pictures show a small preview. Files show the first file’s name and how many more there are.
Pin the copies you want to keep
In the panel, use Pin on a copy’s row, or Delete to remove it. In a ring, right-click a copy to pin or unpin it; a pinned copy shows a pin badge. Pinned copies are listed first.
- Unpinned copies stay in memory only. Rondell keeps up to 50 and forgets them when it closes.
- Pinned copies are saved on this PC, encrypted for your Windows account. You can pin up to 25. Rondell says “No room to pin more” past that.
- Clear all in the panel removes every unpinned copy. Pinned copies stay until you delete them.
What isn’t kept
Rondell skips copies that an app marks as private, such as most password managers do, and copies Rondell makes itself while it works for you. It skips text over 1 MB and very large pictures too.
Windows has its own clipboard history on Win + V. Rondell’s is separate, and a copy Rondell puts back for you stays out of Windows’ history.

The Clipboard history action has two controls. Show as chooses Panel or Ring. Clear history removes the unpinned copies and says “Cleared” or “Nothing to clear”.

The ready-made pills Paste plain text, Clean up pasted text and Insert date and time are other quick ways to paste. The ready-made Snippet pill saves a piece of text, such as an address or a signature, under a short code you type. Typing the code anywhere erases it and types your text in its place.
- In Settings, open Rings, pick a ring, and choose the Add pill tab. Click the Snippet card under Ready-made.
- In the editor, type your saved text in Text on the Paste text action.
- Next to the pill’s key, choose + Abbreviation and type a code, such as ;addr. Press Enter to save it.
- Type the code in any app. Rondell replaces it with your text.
Where snippets don’t work
Rondell does nothing in a password field, an app running as administrator, a remote desktop or virtual machine window, an app you excluded or a full-screen app. It also does nothing while an input method is composing, or if you click before the code is erased.
A code that starts with a letter or digit counts only at the start of a word, so “sig” doesn’t fire inside “design”. Settings warns you when two pills use the same code, or when one code starts another so the longer one never runs.
Rondell remembers what you type only while a pill has an abbreviation, only in memory, and only a few characters. To set an abbreviation on any pill, or see them all in one place, see Rings, shortcuts and gestures.
